2nd Annual WinterFest

2009 Winter Fest in the Landing!

We are holding our 2nd Annual Winter Fest as a major fundraiser for Cooper Landing Community School which includes a Back Country Festival and Outdoor gear swap at CL School, and will be featuring Chugach National Forest Snow Ranger Alex McLain doing a presentation on Avalanche Safety. In the evening we have Dick Griffith from Alaska Mountain Wilderness Classic doing a presentation on his expedition through the Northwest Passage, a silent auction, and we feature Warren Miller’s latest film, Dynasty. Be the first in the State to watch the 60th Anniversary Movie!.

October 24 –12-3 PM Cooper Landing School

12 pm -3 pm– Gear Swap – Clean out all of your old, forgotten, or outgrown gear and either swap or buy something new for the upcoming season! Participants and attendees can win a Stormtech® backcountry jacket at the end of the event. Raffle tickets are available for a $5 donation. $5 for a table to sell/swap gear. No charge for shoppers. 1:30 PM – Avalanche Safety Seminar – Chugach National Forest Snow Ranger – Alex McLain
Presentation will include:
• Avalanche statistics, avalanche terrain recognition, general overview of terrain, weather, snowpack, how to survive when caught in avalanche, and rescue.
• Brief review of avalanche beacons and how to use them.
• Question and answer session.

7 PM – Warren Miller’s 2009 film, DYNASTY – Warren Miller Entertainment is the most respected name in action sports cinematography, capturing the best of winter sports since 1949.
