SEWARD, Alaska (AP) – A guide operating out of Seward has been fined $6,500 for failing to meet sport fish log book requirements.
Alaska State Troopers say 38-year-old Jeffrey P. Barney of Anchorage was fined $10,000 with $3,500 suspended and placed on 1-year probation.
Troopers say Barney was convicted of 20 counts of failing to comply with sport fish guide log book requirements and fined $500 per count.
He also was ordered to pay $1,030 restitution to a party of 4 nonresident clients to whom he had failed to restore a refund after failing to provide a sport fishing charter as contracted last July.
Barney is the owner and operator of Silverado Deep Sea Charters.

Writing Campaign to Have Bridges Permanently Fixed Not Temporarily Fixed

It is time for Seward to get on the band wagon for our bridges to be fixed permanently instead of temporarily that also includes the road from 17 mile to 36 mile. We have a bridge to somewhere and a road to somewhere not like the bridge to nowhere or the road to nowhere. Write your city council, city mayor, city manager, borough mayor, governor and our legislatures. The stimilus package that is being considered for Alaska does not have any of the money coming to this project which is wrong. This is our only road in and out of Seward. With the tourism season coming and the economy being what it is we need all the business that we can get. I know that a lot of people in Seward think that tourism is not important to them, but they are wrong. We need to hammer anyone and everyone regarding this situation. When the Anchorage Daily News reported the story about the bridges back in December there has not been much mentioned since then. In the article it stated that the State is planning on fixing these bridges next summer which means 2010 I do not think that we can afford to let this go without at least a fight of some kind. The State of Alaska spent a lot of money putting up those lights and I have personally seem people not wait for the green light before going on the bridge. Which is very concerning due to the heavy traffic that is coming. Please do your part and contact everyone you can think of to bring this to the front of the line to get done.
