Spring Creek Corrections 2017 Employee of the Year

Carey Quiring, Staff Sergeant, has been selected as Spring Creek Correctional Center’s Employee of the Year for 2017.  She began her distinguished, 30-year, corrections career at Spring Creek Correctional Center (SCCC) in July of 1988 after participating in AVTEC’s on the job training program.  After 17 years in Administration, supporting Personnel, Mailroom and Reception, Ms. Quiring took on more responsibilities as a Correctional Officer in April of 2005.

Seven years later she was promoted to Sgt. where she oversaw Disciplinary, Training, Housing, and she eventually earned the position of Shift Supervisor.  The year 2008 was a fruitful one for SSgt. Quiring as she earned the distinction of being the first, female Prisoner Transport Officer as well as becoming certified as a Taser Instructor. Continuing her track record of success and adding to her list of assets as a Correctional Officer, SSgt. Quiring became qualified as a Field Training Officer in 2009.

In addition to her many accomplishments, SSgt. Quiring has contributed in a multitude of ways to make Spring Creek Correctional Center a well-oiled machine. She is respected and admired by all, and she is often the go-to person for questions or needs. Moreover, she can be relied upon to answer calls for overtime, modeling to her shift and others, how a true dedicated employee acts.  SSgt. Quiring is an all-around great person and a true leader of the SCCC team.  She is an excellent ambassador for SCCC.

In what can be a bleak and negative environment, we strive to shine a little light on the men and women of corrections who work to keep the community safe. We thank Carey for bringing to Spring Creek the dedication and professionalism that we all strive to emulate.

We will be honoring Carey at a luncheon on May 23, 2018, at noon, at the Peking Restaurant in Seward.
