Seward Tsunami Swim Club 2018 Junior Olympic Team

Congratulations to a great team! Kylie, Lydia, Mia, Hailey, Maria, Ben and Nick did an amazing job representing the Seward Tsunami Swim Club at this Championship Meet. They achieved the necessary time standards though their hard work and dedication.

Following is a message from Seward Tsunami Swim Club Head Coach Meghan O’Leary following the 2018 Junior Olympic Swimming Championship meet.

The 2018 Junior Olympic results are in! Our 7 Tsunamis swam fast and had fun. Friday was quite a day for our breaststrokers. Lydia, Mia and Hailey all made finals in their breaststroke events. In finals, Mia placed 3rd and Hailey placed 5th in their age groups for the 50 Breaststroke. Then they went on to place 4th and 5th respectively in their 200 Breaststroke. Lydia won her 100 Breaststroke, also breaking her own state record. Maria placed 2nd in both her events on Friday earning best times in both events as well!

On Saturday, our swimmers were still swimming strong. Nick took 2 seconds off his 100 Bk, making first alternate for finals. Maria took 6 seconds off her 100 breaststroke placing 6th in her age group. Lydia took 6 seconds off her 200 Breaststroke not only winning the event but also the breaking a 26 year old state record. Mia went into finals in her 100 Breaststroke placed 4th after taking almost 2 seconds off her time, then taking an additional 4 seconds off her time placed 2nd in Finals!

Sunday, on a day when the most swimmers are getting exhausted from long hours on the pool deck, our Tsunamis were still swimming strong. Ben time trialed the 100 Fly and took 6 seconds off his previous best time! Maria placed 5th in her 200 IM and 3rd in her 100 Free. Hailey made a best time in her 100 IM. Lydia made finals in her 100 Back and 200 IM placed 6th and 3rd respectively. On this day, Lydia was chosen for the 2018 Alaska Zones Team where she will compete in California in August. She was also voted outstanding Female Athlete of the Year!

I’m so proud of all the hard work our swimmers have put in this season. Parents and swimmers thank you for all the support, work and dedication you have put in to get these swimmers to such a high level of performance. And thanks to the Seward community for your support of the Seward Tsunami Swim Club.

Coach Meghan
