Seward High School and the Seward Seahawk Athletic Booster Club are excited to announce a new signature spring fundraiser – Seahawk Day of Caring! The idea was conceived when SHS alumnus David Dieckgraeff was approached about ideas for fundraising and said, “I want to see the kids helping out in the community, not doing a walk. That’s what I’d sponsor!” Voila! Seahawk Day of Caring is born!
We have worked with the City of Seward and other community stakeholders to identify various projects that the spring teams could complete during an afternoon in early May. The teams will forgo their traditional practice time and conduct various service projects in the community. Possible projects include:
1. City of Seward Parks and Recreation:
a. Painting the three brown buildings around the city campground to Sea Foam Green.
b. Raking rocks, pine cones, garbage, and other refuse around the entire campground complex and/or cemetary.
2. Seward Ministerial Association: sweeping and collecting gravel in parking lots and sidewalks, and basic landscaping and maintenance of the premises.
Funds raised in the Seahawk Day of Caring are needed to subsidize our athletic programs and help pay for bussing, referees, uniforms, scholarships and equipment. Unfortunately, the funds necessary to continue supporting our nine varsity sports programs continue to increase. We are trying to be proactive in order to meet these costs and ensure that we can continue to provide opportunities for our students to represent their school and their communities throughout the State of Alaska.
We believe that the athletic programs are a positive benefit for the Seward youth. They promote team work, a strong work ethic, respect for oneself and others, physical health, pride in one’s community, and more. Some athletes are at-risk and their coaches develop into mentors and are that trusted adult that will steer them down a positive path. Participation in sports is a Benevolent Childhood Experience!
In exchange for your sponsorship in support of the school, the Booster Club will display a banner with the names of all of our sponsors in the gym, at strategic spots around town on the event day, and on the Day of Caring t-shirts. We will also market this event through local/social media and the school newsletter. Help us reach our goal of raising $20,000.00. For a sponsorship form, please email email@example.com.
Please note that logos should be emailed to firstname.lastname@example.org by April 16th in order to meet printing deadlines. Checks can be mailed to SHS, P.O. Box 1049, Seward, AK 99664. Please call Maya Moriarty at 907.362.1977 with any questions.
From the bottom of our hearts we thank the Seward community for their generosity and support.
