Community Book Read and Workshop for Writers, April 21st

Community Book Read and Writers’ Workshop with Libby Fisher Hellman is scheduled for Seward on April 21, 2018. Hellman will read from her recent publication War, Spies and Bobby Sox. This book presents three novellas about women who discover that the tumultuous effects of war were not confined to the front lines. One of the stories, POW, deals with prisoners of war who were incarcerated in the US during World War II. Nearly a half-million Germans and Italians were housed by the Army during those years. Curiously, only four states did not house any POWs, and Alaska was one of the four. Of course, Alaska was not yet a state.

Libby Hellman will be joining our event, using distance technologies, at the Alaska SeaLife Center, Bear conference room. Books will be available at the library desk, while supply lasts and are free as well as the Book Read event. Writers must sign up ahead of time for the workshop, to obtain materials. Workshop is free for Friends members, suggested donation of $5 for non-members. Workshop is designed to increase a writer’s skills for creating suspense.
