Baby Beluga Graduates!

Tyonek, the famous endangered rescued and rehabilitated baby beluga, graduated from the Alaska Sealife Center yesterday. Accompanied by two ASLC staff, he traveled in his special tank by truck to the Anchorage airport and flew non-stop to SeaWorld San Antonio, Texas. The 4000-mile journey, despite the snowstorm en route to Anchorage yesterday morning, went very well and they arrived today. Tyonek enjoyed his bottle and took it in stride. The well-traveled little fellow has ridden in a truck, flown by helicopter, and now by plane in his short, six-month life.

Congratulations to the dedicated staff at the Alaska Sealife Center and all the visiting scientists and staff for taking such excellent care of this very special baby whale.

Check out the SeaWorld San Antonio website for updates as he continues his amazing journey with other beluga whales, alone no more.
