Diversion Tunnel work continues

Measure Twice, Cut Once (M2C1) recently installed an impressive staircase by the Diversion Tunnel Waterfall. Work on the Diversion Tunnel has now shifted to the lower end, so the staircase will provide safer access for the workers’ numerous trips to and from the tunnel. To reduce the flow through the tunnel, Lowell Creek has been diverted through the storm drain along Jefferson Street.  It now drains into Resurrection Bay at the base of Jefferson Street. The 20′ culvert at the end of the storm drain was ripped away in the December high tide storm surge event, but its absence should not affect the safe discharge of the creek.
