Seward Parks & Rec is seeking donations of new or used ice skates to our small and depleted inventory. The public can reserve a pair of ice skates for a week at a time. Please drop off your donation to the Sports & Rec team at the AVTEC Gym, 519 4th Avenue.

Second Lake, off Vista, ice skating is good. In snowy, rainy or warmer temperatures, please keep pets and people off Second Lake ice until it can be cleared and re-maintained. Footprints on the ice cause bumps which are hard to skate over and very difficult to repair.

 Seward Archery League

Winter Session: Jan 17 – Mar 14 at the Alaska Railroad Terminal. Grab your bow & arrows and come down to the Alaska Railroad Terminal for target practice and to compete with other archers. Bring your own equipment or some can be made available.  Bows should be 70lbs and lower. NO crossbows!  League is open to 16yrs and up (16 & 17 yr. olds welcome with an adult).

Grateful Skate” party on Thanksgiving Eve was a huge success!

Thank you all who participated in and donated to ‘Grateful Skate’ on Wed Nov, 22nd. Sports and Recreation collected 162 cans of food and a little over $100 in cash donations for the ‘He Will Provide’ food pantry. 75 skaters enjoyed music, games, friends and fun. Much thanks to the TYC councils who helped with this awesome event!

2018 Urbach’s Youth Basketball League 

Kick off the season with a free basketball Jamboree Sat, Jan 13th! Players will meet the coaches, go through drill stations, work on skill development and scrimmage. League begins Feb 3rd through Apr 7th for pre-school ages through 5th grade. Early bird fee due Dec 23rd, sign up by Dec 30th to receive a complimentary team jersey.

Teen & Youth Center (TYC)

TYC After School Program is back in full swing. Join us for activities involving team sports, nature and outdoors activities, STEM programs, baking, crafts and more. We are a recreation based program designed to stimulate Elementary age kids physically, mentally and emotionally. Join us for a fun filled afternoon Monday– Friday 3:15-5:30. Bus 3 will get you here. Schools Out Day Camp on December 22, Camp is open to kids in K-5 from 7:45-5:30pm. The late fee is $25 per day per child after Dec 1st. Discount rates are available for those who qualify.

Winter Break Camps- December 26-30 and January 2-5. TYC day camp will be playing outside, with nature walks, campfires, skating and sledding. We will swim Tuesday and Thursdays as well. Expect your child to be stimulated not only physically but mentally as well as we explore STEM learning projects throughout the weeks of camp. Seward Community Foundation supports the STEM learning program through grants given to train staff and purchase supplies for these very cool projects. TYC will send your child home Dirty Tired and Hungry each day. Sign up NOW! The Early bird rate is $60 per week, or Late registration is $70. Breakfast with Santa

TYC Council Together with Seward Rotary and Seward Senior Center will be hosting Breakfast with Santa on December 16th. Join us for a fabulous breakfast and have a picture taken by One Shot Photo with the Man of the hour Santa. Seating is limited so get your tickets now at TYC, S&R or City Hall. $9 per adult and $7 for the children. Everyone must have a ticket. Teen Rec Room

The Teen Rec Room located at 336 3rd Ave between the Senior Center & TYC, the Teen Rec Room hours: for Middle School Students – Tuesday – Thursday 2:30 – 9pm Friday 2:30 – 10pm, Saturdays 5 to 10pm For High School Students – Tuesday – Thursday 2:30 – 9p, Friday 2:30 – 11p and Saturday 5 – 11p.  This free program is open to Teens free of charge offering ping pong, Skee ball, computers, Xbox, pool tables and more. Call 224-4056 for more info or stop by and see us! Offsite activities include dodgeball at AVTEC, roller skating, rock wall, hikes, and much more. All teens must have a permission slip signed by a parent or guardian. Come hang out with us!
