Maryann Bozza unexpectedly passed away

Former Seward resident Maryann Bozza unexpectedly passed away from cardiac arrest on Thursday, December 28 during a minor medical procedure in Newport, Oregon. Her death stunned the community and all those who knew and loved her.

Maryann served in a leadership role in the coastal community of Newport as a Trustee with the Pacific Communities Health District Foundation, a Board Member of the Oregon Coast Community College Foundation, and on an advisory committee for the City of Newport.

She joined Oregon State University in 2010 in the position of Program Manager at the Hatfield Marine Science Center. She received a M.S. in Marine Biology at the University of Alaska Fairbanks in 2009, followed by a John A. Knauss Marine Policy Fellowship in Silver Spring, MD, representing Alaska Sea Grant, where she contributed to the development of NOAA’s agency-wide strategic plan.

Her research career in human and wildlife immunology began in the biomedical field in New England followed by a decade at the Alaska Sealife Center where her research focused on threatened pinniped and sea duck species.
