Church & State a Serious Comedy – Honest to God November 11 & 12

The Seward Arts Council Presents an RKP Theater Production of Church and State by Jason Odell Williams on November 11th at 7pm and the 12th at 3pm at the Rae Building on 3rd and Railway.

Charles Whitmore is up for re-election for the North Carolina senate when his beliefs in God and the 2nd amendment are tested when a school shooting happens in the Elementary where his two boys attend. It is up to his conservative Christian wife Sara and his liberal Jewish campaign manager Alex to change his mind. What follows next is funny, human, devastating, brave and powerful. Church & State speaks to the lunacy of modern politics and is one of the most stunningly relevant plays currently on stage. This play closed this last summer to rave reviews off Broadway in New York and just finished a three week run in Anchorage. We are lucky to be able to bring this production to Seward.

“On paper, the topics of this play (religion, guns and politics) seem heavy. But a heavy drama about heavy topics doesn’t interest me. What interest me is a play that gets to the heart of the people around these issues. And when you write about people, you can’t help but let them be funny and sad and honest, heartbreaking and uplifting all at the same time. Because isn’t that what being human is?”
-Jason Odell Williams, playwright

Ticket are sold at the door $10 General Admission and $5 for SAC members, seniors, students and military. Church and State will play Saturday Nov 11th at 7pm and Sunday Nov 12th at 3pm at the Rae Building.
