Letter to the Editor: Variance to Noise Ordinance

Submitted by John Moline –

A local contractor is going to the City Council meeting very soon and asking for a variance to noise ordinances so they can clean gravel and dust from local business and City parking lots after the normal hours allowed. They want a variance so they can clean parking lots between 10 p.m. and 7 a.m. and the only reasoning is that they have to deal with less traffic which increases their profit. Any suggestions on how to start a community discussion involving this to find out if the citizens want their municipal codes thwarted by profit seeking contractors? I have had a multi year run in with all the noise in a commercial business parking lot bothering residential people, and my B&B guests. Thank you, John Moline, Kenai Fjords B&B 907-224-5356
