Recent death in Seward investigated as a homicide

The body of James Woods, age 58 of Wasilla, was discovered 0n August 22nd, 2016 near the Polar Seafoods Processing Plant in Seward.  Alaska State Troopers Spokesperson Megan Peters confirmed that the death is being investigated as a homicide. No additional information, including cause of death, was available.

While Anchorage, just two hours away, has recently experienced its 25th homicide of 2016 (fifteen of those deaths occurred since June of this year), Seward’s last murder (excluding the maximum security prison) occurred 13 years ago on  July 19th, 2003 when William Conger shot and killed his friend John Tulin in the driveway of his Questa Woods home. Conger was arrested a few days later after a massive, multi-agency  man hunt and is currently serving his sentence at Spring Creek Correctional Center in Seward.
