16.22 lb Silver – New Leader!

Mike Hanson of Anchorage hauled in a 16.22 lb Silver to take the lead in the Seward Silver Salmon Derby. Mike was fishing aboard the aptly named vessel “Fishing Machine” at Tonsina Pt. yesterday.

As it happens, Mike is the grandson of Otto Hanson who earlier this week turned in a tagged fish for two Alaska Airlines tickets anywhere Alaska flies.

Nick Hunter’s 15.42 fish is now at second place, with Darlene Neighbours at third with her 14.97 Coho.

Skies are clear for Saturday and Derby officials are expecting to see more silvers turned in.

The 2016 Derby ends at noon on Sunday, August 21st. the Awards Ceremony will be held at Branson Pavilion at 4:00 pm. The Seward Rotary Club will be grilling Silvers to feed the crowd as not only Derby winners are announced, but also winners of the Annual Rotary Duck Dash.

Daily entry tickets are $10.00.  Anglers can win a tagged fish worth $50,000, $10,000, $5,000, and ten $1,000 chances – or the Derby Double, a 2016 Chevy Silverado 1500 and a 2016 Chevy Equinox.
