Join us on Friday, July 29, for our first Bioblitz at Kenai Fjords National Park!

Kenai Fjords National Park is excited to host an arthropod (bug) Bioblitz at Exit Glacier this Friday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.  A “bioblitz” is an event that collects and identifies as many species as possible for the focused group, in our case, bugs.  Join us for our first ever Bioblitz!  Kids in particular are welcome to join.

Our Bioblitz will be led by Harvard-trained entomologist, Jessica Rykken, who is currently a Denali National Park employee.  She has been leading bioblitzes across Alaskan parks.  Bug specimens will be collected to use as “voucher specimens,” a formal way of documenting the species we have in the park, and as the start of an invertebrate inventory.

Kids who want to participate need to meet at Kenai Fjords National Park’s Pavilion near the Nature Center at Exit Glacier at 10 a.m. and must be accompanied by parents, unless coming as part of the City of Seward’s Teen Youth Center group.

When:  Friday, July 29 at 10 a.m.   (Ends at 3 p.m.)

Where:  At Exit Glacier area in Kenai Fjords National Park, in the Pavilion near Nature Center

Bring:  Lunch, water, raingear, enthusiasm
