Anchorage artist Betty Atkinson paints in Seward.

This coming weekend Seward will host plein air painters from Anchorage, Palmer and Homer. Local painters were welcome to join the group, which will meet at the Seward Hotel at 9am Saturday morning (June 11). The painters will discuss options and then fan out in the Seward area to capture on canvas or paper a scene of their choosing.  We’re hoping for good weather.  Lacking that, we will have to find shelter somewhere. In the worst case scenario, we can set up still lifes.
The painters will gather for a group dinner at the Apollo Restaurant Saturday night to swap stories of the day. They will spend the night and paint again on Sunday before heading home. Most of the paintings will be oil or acrylic.  Jennifer Headtke and Dot will paint with watercolor. Some may even sketch with prisma colored pencils.  So….if you see easels in the tall grass, you’ll know that Seward has been invaded by the plein air artists, as they do every year at this time.
Maybe some time later in the Summer, these pieces will show up in a plein air show somewhere in Seward.
