Huge landslide blocks Lowell Point Road

After torrential rains, the supersaturated soil on the steep mountainside along Lowell Point Road gave way this afternoon at a new spot around 2 pm. The huge slide, about mile 1.5, included a massive spruce tree, snapped in half, mud, and rocks.

Public Works does not plan to start clearing this until Monday due to budget constraints.  Some Lowell Point residents climbed over the wreckage, while others are forced to wait, trapped on one side or the other. Fortunately, no one was caught by the slide. This time.

Lowell Point Road is a catastrophe waiting to happen.
