Way To Go! Seward NYO!

Seward’s very own junior and senior Native Youth Olympic teams went to Kenai, Alaska. We were invited to compete at the Peninsula Winter Games NYO Invitational hosted by Kenaitze Indian Tribe. This Native Youth Olympic competition was open to teams and individuals around Alaska from January 22nd – 24th, 2016.

This was a two and half day competition that consisted of eleven different events. Athletes had to have; strength, endurance, agility, and balance to compete in these different events.

Here was the list of athletes that went and competed this past weekend. Seward Orcas (JNYO Team): Tommy Cronin, Ayla Tritz, Porter Rockwell, Ella Stefan, Robin Cronin, Chloe Lastimosa, Eli Matheson, James Wardlow, Olin Liljemark, Nakita Epps, and Justin Wardlow. Seward Hunters (SNYO Team): Priscilla Stoltz and Nick Valenza.
Coaches: James Wardlow, Joseph Cross and Michelle Wardlow.
These are amazing athletes, they all gave their best in what they did. As a coach I am pleased and proud to haven them on our team.

Medals are the icing on the cake but what as coaches go for is to get our athletes to their personal best. In Native Youth Olypmics, it is not to be better than one another. It is to push yourself to get to your goals in the events. Each athlete, coach or official help each other out through-out these events. Meaning if one athlete is better than another. The good athlete would give pointers or tips to the other athlete, so he/she is able to improve their technique in the event. You see this kind of sportsmanship at each NYO competition you attend.

Here are the results in the medals that both teams have won.
