The 2013-2014 Teen & Youth Council members have volunteered a combined 364 hours so far this year! TYC organizes an annual trip for Council members as one way to say THANKS for all of their time and efforts throughout the year. In the past, these trips have taken the kids to Anchorage for go-karting, mini-golf, movies, dinner etc. We are thinking a change of scenery might be in order for this year, perhaps a trip to Soldotna, Kenai or Nikiski for alternative options for a fresh new spin on this trip. Thank you TYC Councils for your continued support of TYC programming!

TYC is now accepting applications for Teen & Youth Councils for the 2014-2015 school-year. The Teen & Youth Councils were developed in 1985 (Teen), 1998 (Youth) and 1999 (Junior). Each branch is a 10 member group with the mission of working with staff to create a fun and safe atmosphere for the TYC elementary programs as well as to represent their peers in a fun and friendly forum. The Teen Council is a ten member group of High School aged teens who meet bi-weekly to develop and host special events for teens and their community. Members volunteer at After School Program to mentor younger students, helping to make a difference. Be a part of an involved, active group…the “backbone of TYC!” Teen Council members earn discounts, merits & recognition. Junior Council is designed to give Middle School students their own voice and their own representatives. This ten member group also meets bi-weekly to develop and host special events for TYC Middle School programs. The Youth Council is a ten member group of elementary students who meet bi-weekly to help develop and host special events at TYC elementary programs. Youth Council members also learn to manage the snack bar from collecting money, running the til, taking kid’s food orders and inventory. They also lead games, crafts and activities with the younger children. All council members earn discounts, merits & recognition and are eligible for scholarships upon graduation. Applications can be picked up at and returned to TYC at 336 Jefferson Avenue. Current members do need to reapply. There are limited seats for councils so please get your applications in early. Applications are due by September 12th. Feel free to call TYC for more info at 224-5472.
