Do you live in a floodplain?

Please join us for a Flood Risk Information Open House Tuesday, September 9th from 5:00pm to 8:00pm at the City Council Chambers. In cooperation with FEMA, the State of Alaska, the Kenai Peninsula Borough, and the City of Seward this will be a combined Flood Risk Information Open House.

This Open House will provide the public with an opportunity to review a recently completed Preliminary Flood Insurance Study (FIS) and its accompanying preliminary Flood Insurance Rate Maps (FIRM) resulting from the Kenai Peninsula Borough Coastal Flood Study. This meeting will focus on the preliminary FIRMS for the City of Seward and the east side of the Kenai Peninsula Borough. The FIS and the FIRMs provide base flood information, delineate areas subject to significant flood hazards within the Seward area, and offer information public officials may use when permitting development in the floodplain. This is an opportunity to view the preliminary maps and FIS in preparation for the upcoming comments and appeals period. You can view the preliminary FIRM

The Open House will be staffed with representatives from FEMA and the State of Alaska to provide you with the most current information about flood risk, flood insurance, floodplain development regulations, and the process for floodplain mapping. New preliminary floodplain maps have been prepared and will be on display. Once the maps become effective, these maps will be used by floodplain permit officials, builders and developers, lenders, realtors, insurance agents, and the general public to determine flood risk, develop mitigation measures, and encourage wise and responsible risk management decision-making.
