Division of Elections Reports Primary Election Results at 2:12 a.m. Wednesday

By Rick Smeriglio for SCN – With 98.6 percent of  precincts having counted and reported their vote tallies, Alaska Division of Elections reported the following election results in races of importance to Seward and surrounding areas. Readers should note that percentages refer to proportion of candidate’s party, not the overall electorate. For clarity, SCN has left out losing candidates within parties as well as candidates from minor parties not garnering significant numbers of votes. The listed pairs of candidates will likely face each other in the general election this coming fall.


US Senate

Mark Begich, (D) incumbent 83.5 percent

Dan Sullivan, (R) 40 percent


US House of Representatives

Don Young, (R) incumbent 74.3 percent

Forrest Dunbar, (D) 62.9 percent


Governor of Alaska

Sean Parnell, (R) incumbent 75.5

Byron Mallott, (D) 66.8 percent


Lieutenant Governor of Alaska

Hollis French, (D) 61.9 percent


Mayor Dan Sullivan, (R) 70.5 percent


Alaska Senate District O

Peter Micciche (R) incumbent 100 percent


Alaska House District 29

Charles (Mike) Chennault (R) incumbent 100 percent

Rocky Knudsen (D) 100 percent


Ballot Measure No. 1, to repeal or to retain existing state tax on oil production.

Yes, repeal 47.7 percent

No, retain 52.2 percent


Readers should note that over 7,000 votes remain uncounted and some precincts have not yet reported as of 2:12 am Wednesday morning. The percentages and outcome of the vote on Ballot Measure No. 1 could change.
