The Seward Seahawks Athletic Booster Club held their 11th annual golf tournament on July 26th. This event is the Club’s single largest fundraiser of the year for the high school’s athletic programs. One of the best things about this tournament, aside from its monetary value, is that it truly is a fun gathering of Seward folks along a few players from other places. When else do 60+ people from Seward get together to play for the day? The majority of the golfers have golfed this tournament almost every year since it began. Even if someone is a new golfer, the format of the tournament allows him or her to have a fun time. In addition to regular golf rules, a best ball scramble is played. Each player can have two mulligans and each team may kick, throw and blow the ball once without it counting against their score.
The winning team of the 2014 contest, with a score of -6, was comprised of Jim Conant, Lori Draper, Pat Shake and Martha Fleming. Their names will be inscribed on the tournament plaque that hangs in the high school. Gene Minden and Amy Reierson won the longest drive contests. The closest to the pin contest was won by Marty Arnoldy. Thanks to the tournament sponsors, all players received prizes for their participation. This year’s sponsors were:
Alaska SeaLife Center
Kenai Fjords Tours
Kenai Fjords Tours Gift Shop/Helly Hansen

Additional sponsors include the Birch Ridge Golf Course, Seward Fishing Company, Bill Cazemier, Three Bears and Dave Fairchild/Trail River Lodge.
