The Kenai Peninsula Borough Office of Emergency Management (OEM) is pleased to announce an opportunity for members of the public to attend our upcoming CERT training in Soldotna, beginning on June 23.
CERT is designed to train people to assist themselves, neighbors, and their community in the event of a major disaster. Designed primarily for people who are not first responders or who possess other professional emergency response training, the class is divided into eight units. The units include: Disaster Preparedness, Fire Safety & Utility Control, Disaster Medical Operations, Light Search and Rescue, CERT Organization, Disaster Psychology, and Terrorism. The class culminates with a disaster simulation to practice the skills learned during the class. Most classes are hands-on, but people of all physical abilities and experience levels are welcome.
At the conclusion of the class, participants may join their local CERT team, which is a structured program that indicates participants would like to continue by responding if assistance is needed and to commit to continuing education and activities. Joining the team is optional, and there is no commitment required to take the class itself.
The class schedule is as follows. All classes are 6pm – 9pm unless noted:
Monday June 23 Disaster Preparedness
Wednesday June 25 Fire Safety/Utility Control
Friday June 27 Disaster Medical Pt. 1
Monday June 30 Disaster Medical Pt. 2
