Tyonek Fire Update May 24

Department of Natural Resources Press Release – 

Work continues to strengthen Tyonek Fire containment lines


(Palmer, AK) – The Tyonek fire continues to hold at 1,906 acres. The management of the fire was assumed today by Washington Interagency Incident Management Team 3 (WIMT 3) Incident Commander Bob Allbee.


Today is a transition day with incoming personnel shadowing those who have been working on the fire since its start May 19.  WIMT 3 would like to thank those working on the fire since its inception for the excellent work accomplished to date.

Operations for today will focus on patrolling and holding recently constructed fire lines. Firefighters will also patrol and mop up around structures within and around the fire perimeter.

A total of 234 personnel are assigned today to the fire including 3 helicopters, 2 engines, and 3 water tenders.  Air tankers from Palmer are available, if needed.
