Tsunami Swim-a-Thon Friday

Super Tsunami's at Age Groups Meet in Fairbanks
Super Tsunami’s at Age Groups Meet in Fairbanks

It’s here! The last days before the Tsunami swimmers go into the pool for their two hours of time to attempt to complete 200 lengths of the pool! Final pledges are being taken for Swim-a-Thon.

Tsunami swimmers can be sponsored two ways for this event; flat/one time amount or by the length. So, if a sponsor gives a per-length sponsorship of .50 per length and the Tsunami swimmer was able to do 40 lengths of the pool, it would be a $20 sponsorship. Many choose to sponsor per length, it is encouragement to the swimmers, they try for as many lengths as possible in the two hour time. Each length of the pool is 25 yards. When the swimmers are finished with 200 lengths, the maximum they are allowed to swim, 5000 yards would have been swum.

In trying to calculate how far that would be, it is approximately 2.9 (3) miles. The equivalent of swimming from the Seward boat harbor to Lowell Point!

Now’s your chance to sponsor a swimmer, just go to our website below and find a swimmer. If you have a sponsorship given, thank you! The USA Swimming Swim-a-Thon is the only fund raising event that the swimmers participate in for the swim season. The funds help the club do almost everything, helps pay for contract coaching, pool fees, travel for STSC coaches to the meets with the swimmers and training supplies. STSC is operated as a 501(c)3 nonprofit with a volunteer (non-paid) board.
This season STSC has 53 registered swimmers ages 5 to 17, they have attended USA sanctioned meets in Soldotna, Kenai, two in Homer, 17 swimmers qualified for swim times for Age Groups in Fairbanks (State wide meet), one swimmer qualified for a NW Age Groups time to attend in Federal Way, WA and STSC conducted a home meet.
Swimmers are now working for qualifying times to attend Junior Olympics meet held at Bartlett each year, last year STSC sent 18 swimmers to that meet and came in 4th in the state. These swimmers are motivated, come to practice on schedule, most swim every day and they are Having Fun!

Swim-a-Thon starts after school on Friday, the community is welcome to stop by and see them swim. A pizza party is being held afterwards for all the swimmers and parents.
