The following is an excerpt from his nomination:

In the months leading up to the November 2012 Seward Area Site-Based Council Meeting, Jason had convinced both me and the Seward Elementary Principal, David Kingsland, that the best option for providing consistent opportunities for Seward students would be to move the 6th grade class to Seward Middle School.  Eight Site-Based Council Meetings, two community-wide meetings, and a community survey later, the recommendation was forwarded to the Kenai Borough School District’s Board of Education in October of 2013 for approval.  The time spent in those Site-Council and community meetings was primarily dedicated to reviewing data from every suggestion and answering every question that came from the community.  The vast bulk of this research and data disaggregation was done by Seward Middle Principal, Jason Bickling.  This process required leadership above and beyond the standard role of a secondary principal and is certainly worthy of the AASSP’s Principal of the Year.” – Trevan Walker, Principal, Seward High School
