Blue Tarp/Duct Tape Challenge

ducttape1ducttape2Students in Seward High School’s Alaska Studies class were given the assignment of creating projects using the most Alaskan of materials: duct tape and blue tarp. The projects were supposed to embrace the spirit of what it means to be Alaskan, with the limits being only a one week time frame and the extent of their fertile imaginations. The results this year were outstanding, with submissions ranging from a full bridal ensemble to snowshoes and a 2-man Grizzly costume crafted out of tarp and tape. The grand prize, however, went to Alex Ashford, whose tarp and tape Bald Eagle “Freedom” was truly an amazing feat of engineering and artistry.
