Santa flew in from the North Pole last Sunday, December 8th, to meet some local pets and their owners.

SOS Pets, a local nonprofit which supports the Seward Animal Shelter and promotes responsible, respectful pet care through education and advocacy, raised $175 for dog and cat food at a Photos with Santa and pet food drive event last weekend in the Breeze Inn lobby.

“It was a fun event indeed,” said event organizer Jane Belovarac.   “It was great to see everyone dressed up for their photos, both human and furry,” she added.

Twelve families participated, bringing in mostly dogs, but also two cats for photos.

The money raised will go to buy pet food for the He Will Provide food bank in the coming months. The group also collected bags of pet foods and treats which will be distributed to pet owners. Those who dropped off donations were entered in a raffle. Teri Arnold won a doggie bag and Stephanie Avery won a kitty bag.

SOS Pets projects include a spaying and neutering voucher program, a microchip clinic, and supplying pet food to the food bank.

Those interested in donating to the pet food drive can visit their website (www.sospetsak.org) and click on the donate button or find them on Facebook.
