The sky is falling, the sky is falling.
The Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse are riding white horses bearing the names ACA.
The ACA is the worst thing to happen to America since pureed liver.
President Obama is personally heading up Death Panels to decide who in America lives and who dies.
There is a lot of hysteria, misinformation, and disinformation being circulated about the Affordable Care Act, AKA, “ObamaCare”. The ACA was passed three years ago and has been implemented in stages. Today, October 1st, is the start of the new fiscal year (and government shutdown over the issue) and hearalded the opening of the Federal Marketplace for health insurance.
Here are some FACTS regarding the Affordable Health Care Act:
*A child can stay on their parent’s insurance until age 24, regardless of whether they are in school or not.
*The lifetime cap of $1,000,000 has been lifted. A million dollars sounds like a lot, but when it comes to health care, it’s not. One diagnosis of cancer, a major heart attack, or other health catastrophe could easily push a person over the previous cap.
*The pre-existing condition denial for insurance is gone. Previously, if you were older, had a heart attack, cancer, diabetes, or other major health concerns, good luck getting an individual health insurance policy at any price.
According to the U.S. Census Department, the population of Alaska in 2012 was 731,449. It is estimated that 140,000 Alaska residents have no insurance; nineteen percent or almost 1 in 5 lack health insurance. The ACA is an opportunity for the uninsured to obtain health insurance. Plans are based on a person’s age, location, tobacco use, and whether they are applying for an individual or family plan.
The enrollment period will end March 31st, 2014. For people who want to start their coverage by January 1st, 2014, they must be enrolled by December 15th, 2013. Here in Alaska, there are 34 plans being offered by two carriers on the State of Alaska’s Federally run marketplace.

Will the ACA result in the downfall of civilization as we know it? Highly doubtful.
Might the ACA allow folks to purchase health insurance that was previously unattainable- definitely.
Check it out and decide for yourself if the ACA is a good thing or not. Is denying people access to health insurance worth shutting down the entire U.S. Government?
