Kenai National Wildlife Refuge will host a “Spooky Season” event on Saturday, October 26, 2013. The Environmental Education Center will be set up as a drop-in discovery room w/hands on activities from 3PM – 7:30PM to dispel many of the common phobias/fears people have such as bats, spiders, insects, snakes, owls, the dark, the night sky, and more.
A 1/4 mile spooky trail will be set up from 6:30PM – 7:30PM. It will be lit by luminaries and along the trail will be stations where you will learn some more fun facts about owls, bats, ravens, and get a chance to look at the stars through a telescope.
This is not a costume event, is not meant to scare anyone, and candy will not be given out. If you need alternative formats or services because of a disability or have questions, please contact Michelle Ostrowski at (907) 260-2839 or by e-mail at firstname.lastname@example.org.
To find the Refuge Visitor Center when you arrive in Soldotna, travel to
mile 95 of the Sterling Highway, crossing the Kenai River Bridge. Once you
cross the river, immediately get in the far left turn lane and make a left on to
Funny River Road. As soon as you are on Funny River Road, prepare for an
immediate right turn on to Ski Hill Road. Ski Hill Road is gravel, and you will
drive one mile up the hill and make a left turn on to a paved road leading to
the Visitor Center.
