If you have seen the pink ribbons folks are wearing, or have been asked to “round up” at Safeway for Breast Cancer, you are undoubtably aware that October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month. One in eight women will experience breast cancer in their lifetime.
There are many barriers that prevent a woman from seeking care for a suspicious breast lump. Fear of being told that it is cancer is one reason woman don’t seek help, even though they know this isn’t logical. Lack of insurance and not being able to afford care is another barrier to care. Some are just too busy to check and don’t notice anything suspicious.
Therefore, during Breast Cancer Awareness Month (until October 31st), Glacier Family Medicine Clinic will be offering free breast cancer screening exams. If you lack insurance and/or financial resources and need a mammogram, we can also help enroll you in a program that will pay for this service.
