As of Monday afternoon, October 28th, four city residents have picked up City Council candidates packets for the one-year term remaining from Jean Bardarson, who will be sworn in as the new Seward City Mayor.
Dale Butts, who is on the Seward Planning and Zoning Commission and is a volunteer firefighter, and Robert Thomas, who served on the City Council for two years, have both thrown their hats into the ring, and returned their completed packets. Dr. John French, who is on the Seward Historical Commission, and Tim McDonald, who is the city’s representative to the Cook Inlet Aquaculture Association, also have picked up candidates packets, and McDonald already publically announced his intention to run for the council seat, after losing the recent municipal election for mayor to Bardarson.
The remaining council members will interview them, and will then select one of them in an upcoming meeting.
There’s still time for others to apply. The deadline for submission is 5:00 p.m. November 1st.
