About 170 Seward sports nuts of all ages ran through town this morning for the first ever Seward Spirit Scamper to raise money for high school sports.
Along the way they were sprayed with a dusty green and yellow harmless paint, making what used to be the annual Hawkwalk, a color-run.
At the end of the race party music blared as the happy runners rolled around in the paint, sprayed one another, and took photos.
SHS Athletic Director Sami King, who thought up the new event to replace the Hawk Walk tradition, said everyone had a great time. SHS Principal Trevan Walker agreed, and said it was a great idea to include the entire community in the event. Participants also said they had a blast, and that it was more fun than a regular run. They also said that the idea brought out more people, and hopefully raised more money for high school sports.
This afternoon is a home football game with Valdez, and all participants who bring their colorful, newly-painted T-shirts get in for free.
