“IN HER SHOES” Event
This is an interactive and educational walk in the life of a
Domestic Violence Victim. In this walk you will experience
the challenges, obstacles and frustrations a victim and/or
their children go through to get help.
*Please Remember* not all victims of Domestic Violence are women.
You will begin your journey at the Branson Pavilion, with the victim you choose. You will be given
a background of that victim’s life, from there you as an individual or as a group must help this
victim and from there your journey begins as a walk through town as you choose which service provider and/or support you think would best help your victim. The…re are 8 victims and 18 locations on your journey, you may not hit them all and some you may go to several times. A map of locations will be provided to you at sign up.
You can participate as an individual or as a group of 5-8 people. Each person will need to
bring a bag or backpack of items that you as a victim would need to pack in a hurry if you
were to have to leave home. It must weigh between 20-25 lbs. You will also need to bring a doll
or stuffed animal of medium size (even if you are a male). Many of these victims have children.
When your journey is over we will meet back at the pavilion for food and beverages.
We will talk about your experiences and how you felt. We will also discuss what you
packed in your bags to bring with you.
At the end we will hold a candlelight vigil for victims of Domestic Violence.
