Seward, Alaska, August 12, 2013 – As the 58th Seward Silver Salmon Derby kicked off on Saturday Aug. 10th Earl Cagle, Phillip Lazenby and Harold Foley (All past three Derby winners) stopped by the Derby Booth on opening morning to say Hi and buy tickets.
Just This morning Don Child from Wasilla took the lead with a 17.13lb Silver, caught in Thumb Cove on the Troublemaker.
In 2nd place Richard Jensen from Palmer caught a 16.67 lb Silver on the Horndog just south of Thumb Cove.
Cathleen Vestal of Anchorage, Alaska is currently leading for women and holding the 3rd place spot. Vestal was on a private boat fishing in the Cheval Narrows when she caught a 15.79 lb Silver. Anglers in this year’s Derby are bringing in some very nice silvers.
Erik Johnson of Anchorage, Alaska is a lifelong Seward Silver Salmon participant, and is holding 4th place with his 15.25 lb Silver Salmon.
Come on down to Seward and make sure you get your Seward Silver Salmon Derby ticket from any ticket sales outlet in the Seward boat harbor. Tickets are only $10 per day for a chance to win $10,000 first prize! 2nd prize is $5,000 and tagged fish worth even more!
