The superyacht Octopus anchored just off shore in front of Seward today. According to the superyacht website, http://www.superyachtfan.com/superyacht_octopus.html, it is owned by Microsoft billionaire Paul Allen. Mr. Allen co-founded Microsoft with Bill Gates in 1975.
The super yacht is one of the world’s largest yachts. It has two helicopters on the top deck and a 63′ tender docked in the transom. It has a pool and two submarines. For photos of the interior, please visit the above site.
According to Wikpedia, the Octopus was built in 2003. It is 414′ long and currently the world’s 13th largest superyacht, and the largest expedition yacht. One of the submarines is operated by remote control for studying the ocean bottom. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Octopus_(yacht)
The last port listed on http://www.marinetraffic.com/ais/shipdetails.aspx?mmsi=319866000 was Cairns, Australia.
It was amazing to see it today, dwarfing all the charter boats and tour boats.
