Obihiro Special Taste Test

Last evening, 6 lucky Sewardites were able to sample Obihiro Special Dishes all over town!  The following restaurants are selling their own version of the ‘Obihiro Special’ and donating a percentage of the profits to the Obihiro Mural Project!  Chinooks, Cantina, The Breeze, Woody’s Thai Restaurant, Red’s Burger, The Chattermark, and Gene’s Place all are selling these specials for the month of August.  By ordering the Obihiro Special, you are supporting the Obihiro Mural Project! The City of Seward in collaboration with the Seward Arts Council, Seward Mural Society, and Seward artists is installing and dedicating Justine Pechuzal’s Mural “Friendship Across Water” at the Zoo in Obihiro, Japan this September.  This reflects a long tradition of cultural exchange with our sister city of Obihiro, Japan. Thanks for your support!

The tasting committee judged the specials on Appearance, Texture, Flavor and Creativity.  An article about the experience and the winning special will be printed in the August 28th Seward Journal.  For now, photos of these delicious dishes (in no particular order)!  Remember you can still support our restaurants as well as the Obihiro Mural Project for the rest of this month!

  1. What’s weird it that Alaska Nellie’s Roadhouse has been doing a special for this for the whole month and we are not included in this article… We were even told some people would come in and try the food and they never came. So strange. I would be nice to get the same exposure that the other restaurants are getting, because our special is selling well and people are really enjoying it. We even took the time to advertise it on every table and it is on the special board everyday…hmmmm….

  2. Christin, please send us a photo and description of your Obihiro special and we’ll be happy to post it for you.

  3. Christin,

I apologize, it seems like there was a misunderstanding. I wrote you a message on AK Nellie’s FaceBook to explain what happened!
