Seward Police Department and Seward Volunteer Fire Department responded to a call at 12:45 a.m. this (Friday) morning of a fire and explosion in the area on the Seward Ship’s Chandlery property behind and adjacent to ACE Hardware and Marine on Leirer Road,  owned by James Pruitt. Arriving at 12:50 they found the fire on an old school bus turned into a camper that someone was apparently living on, said SPD Chief Tom Clemons. They extinguished the fire by 1:07 and discovered a body. They believe that a propane tank on the bus was responsible for the loud explosion people heard. The body has not been identified, however, and the cause of the fire is still under investigation.  The area has been cordoned off as a crime scene, and the State Fire Marshall is here, investigating.

Clemons said it would probably be a long time before the investigation is concluded and the body is identified, as is typically the case in such matters.

  1. so who was it? and why are there no comments posted?

    • I am guessing by looking at the bus the body was burnt so they need to identify the body. In the story it states it will take time to investigate.
