The Seward High School Girls and Boys Varsity Basketball Teams are on their way home from the 2013 Alaska State Basketball Championships. This was the third year in a row that Seward Seahawks Basketball teams made it to State. The teams, playing in the 3-A Division, each played two games, one Thursday and one Friday before they were eliminated from the tournament. The Boys played first against Bethel, one of the state’s premier teams in the division, and held the final score down to a 10 point difference, and the Girls played against Barrow Thursday.

On Friday, the Boys played Grace Christian, and the girls played Houston, teams that they had both beaten in the regionals in Seward, their home turf, but could not beat them this time around.

The Seward Varsity Boys team did walk away with the 3-A Sportsman award Saturday before leaving, however.

The championship was won by Monroe Catholic Boys and Barrow Girls.
