Most Romantic Engagement Ever

Travis Beals, 22, of Seward who ran his rookie Iditarod Dogsled race this year, placed 37th as he arrived in Nome yesterday, (Thursday) at 4:10 p.m. with 11 happy dogs. Travis made the 1,000 mile race with an average speed of 3.72 miles per hour in 11 days, 11 hours, 1 minute and 10 seconds.
His life-long dream realized, he topped it off with another. Under the burled arches, he and Sarah Stokey, his girlfriend and fellow dog musher got engaged. Can I get a Mazeltov!
Formerly of Cape Cod, Stokey moved to Seward in the summer of 2010 to work for Mitch Seavey’s sled-dog tour business. She met Travis in the fall, and they’ve been sharing their passion-dogs- ever since. The two of them own the Turning Heads Kennel just off Exit Glacier Road.
