Douglas C. Fletcher, 44, of Seward, was killed Thursday night from a head on collision with another vehicle on the Seward Highway. His wife Maria Kobzeva, 24, was driving southbound near mile 105, and began to pass another southbound vehicle when she struck a northbound Mercedes sedan, occupied by Anchorage residents Per Bjorn-Roli, 69, and Maria Bjorn-Roli, 61. The collision occurred in the northbound lane. Fletcher was pronounced dead on the scene. The three survivors were transported to Anchorage for treatment of non-life threatening injuries. Kobzeva was treated and released. A state trooper investigation is ongoing. Doug was Marie and Skip Fletcher’s son. The Fletchers own the Liberty Theater.
“Kambe and the rest of the family are traveling here. Pray for mercy in their travels and peace and strength for each and all of this precious family!” said local resident Jim Herbert.
