Boardwalk Closed

The Dale B. Clemons memorial Lagoon Boardwalk is closed again for the winter. This is the second winter in a row the City has selected to close the Boardwalk to be able to redirect personnel and to save on equipment hours spent clearing the Boardwalk in the past. Questions about this closure or other parks issues can be directed to Parks and Rec Director, Karin Sturdy, 224.4053.

This is interesting. The older notice (scroll down) stated the boardwalk was found to be unsafe by Schneider Structural Engineers, which is much different from a city department trying to stay within budget.

If it is unsafe, would rebuilding it be eligible for any cruise ship head tax funding? It is a lovely walk for cruise ship visitors and locals. I understand it was built too narrow originally. Could it be redone to ADA standards or at least wider and WITH the connection across to the other side on the south end?

A lot of people appreciated being able to walk the whole “loop.” The boardwalk promotes wellness, and is much safer than trying to negotiate the icy sidewalks or walking along the side of the road. I sure hope we can get it functioning again soon.

I hate to see another “something for us” not for us.

    Just a thought,
