LUNA DANCE CIRCLE
Luna Dance Circle emerged in Seward, Alaska in 2006. Founder and director Lori Angove has brought her 20 years of dance experience to her students and the community. Lori’s background ranges from the folkloric dances of Egypt and North Africa to the Modern styles of the U.S., including American Tribal Style Belly Dance (ATS).
Lori has recently completed the National SEEDs (Self-Esteem, Empowerment and Education through Dance) Teacher Training Certification program, a youth mentorship program for young girls ages 13-18. SEEDs is also deeply rooted in the spirit of ATS promoting teamwork, self-discovery, a sense of community and having FUN.
The Luna Dance Circle is Seward’s first performance belly dance group making their debut at the Seward Music and Arts Festival in 2007! The Luna Dance Circle is made up of an eclectic and diverse group of local women. Together they create a collaborative belly dance ensemble specializing in what is known around the world as American Tribal Style Belly Dance (ATS). ATS borrows dance and costuming stylizations from the regions of India, the Middle East, North Africa and Spain. It is both a celebration of the female spirit as well as the physical display of the strength and beauty of women. This style of dance is improvisational and is meant to be danced together as a group.
The Luna Dance Circle continues to evolve creating their own style of dance including ATS based, Flamenco inspired, Zambra Fusion and Urban Tribal Style Belly Dance while exploring the traditional dances as well. The Luna Dance Circle is honored to be a part of the Seward Music & Arts Festival.
