Syracuse Man Wins Halibut Tourney

Mike Smiley's Halibut Wins Tournament

Mike Smiley of Syracuse, New York has good reason to be smiley. He won the Seward 2012 Halibut Tournament. His 196.6 lb halibut took 1st place. He caught it June 24th aboard the ProFish-N-Sea, with Captain Woody Wedin. Wedin was also the winning captain in last year’s tourney.

Chris Bautsch of Seward, took 2nd place with a 194.8 lb halibut, while aboard the Got Fish with Capt. Randy McFarland. He won $5,000.

Sammuel Sommerschield of Winchester, TN, took 3rd with a 187 lb halibut, caught aboard the ProFish-N-Sea Pursuit with Capt. Kevin Knight.

The Seward Charter Boat Association and Seward Chamber of Commerce thanks all its generous sponsors for another successful tournament. The event, which began June 1st, helps promote early season charter boat fishing.

Seward’s Silver Salmon Derby runs August 11-19th.
