Fred Moore’s photo appears on the cover of the Alaska Runner’s Calendar. The calendar is published annually by the Anchorage Parks and Recreation Department and distributed statewide to over 8,000 runners. Each year, nominations are solicited for the cover spot and awardees are selected by a committee representing various running organizations around the state. The Alaska Mountain Runners organization nominated Fred Moore.
In 2009, Fred Moore completed his 40th consecutive Mount Marathon Race; in which he held the 50 and 60 –year old age group records. Fred has run a time less than or equal to his age on Mount Marathon six times (a record). He has held, and still holds, numerous age group records in road and mountain races throughout Alaska, including the Hope Wagon Trail 50-year old age group record for over 15 years.
Fred volunteered his time as a Mount Marathon Race committee member for years, and established the Mount Marathon Race as part of the Alaska Mountain Runners Grand Prix series. Fred has been a community volunteer for many local running races. Every year, rain, shine or snow, along with his wife Phyllis, he assists the cross country team in hosting a high school cross country meet on Seward trails.
Fred is known throughout the state and has earned the respect of both his fellow runners and the public. Fred turns 70 this year and is a huge inspiration to younger runners. He is a great athlete and contributing community member. 2010 Alaska Runner's Calendar Cover
