The Dolly Parton Imagination Library free book program has come to Seward and Moose Pass. Every child who enrolls that is under the age of 5 gets a free book every month. How can we do this?

The Seward PTSA locally sponsors the program and there is a board of directors who oversees daily activities and ensures the program’s success. We are tasked with enrolling everyone who is eligible. We do this through support from social service agencies, early childhood literacy programs, health care providers, the public health nurse, and the school system. We also advertise through local media. Then we have to keep track of who is enrolled and submit that information to the Dollywood Foundation for the books to be sent out.

This program only costs about $30 a year for each child. There are approximately 400 children under 5 years of age in our community and it is our goal to have every eligible child enrolled. This equates to about $12,000 per year. We operate purely on monetary donations and grants. Seward is known for its generosity in supporting community causes and we are looking for your help. All donations will be recognized by a leaf or bud on a “Giving Tree” which will be temporarily located at the Seward Elementary School until it can be permanently placed at the new Seward Library.

For more information about making a donation, or to enroll a child, email sewardimaginationlibrary@gmail.com or contact Lidia Petersen at 224-8680.

The Dolly Parton Imagination Library is made possible by the Seward PTSA, grants from the Seward Community Foundation, the City of Seward, Best Beginnings, Rasmuson Foundation, ConocoPhillips, and generous donations made by local businesses and individuals.
