The administration will be placing Trevan Walker as the Seward High School administrator for the 2009-2010 school year. Because Mr. Walker is already under administrative contract for the district, this will be handled as an informational item in the July school board packet (no action by the Board required). Please distribute this information through your regular communications channels.

There will be some immediate implications of this decision and I will try to outline the information that can be passed on:

1) What about Seward Middle? The position of principal teacher will be opened today. Rather than come to Seward and do another “process” meeting I will be asking folks who have input on characteristics/priorities/questions to e-mail me directly by Tuesday, June 16th. I will be asking for a community volunteer to be the conduit for information during this process…. basically the job you have been doing for Seward High School admin hiring. The position is scheduled to close on June 18th and interviews are tentatively scheduled for Tuesday, June 23rd, time to be determined.

2) What about Moose Pass? The responsibilities for administering Moose Pass were going to be shared with Seward Middle but with a new administrator this does not seem to be the best plan. Therefore, the administrative responsibilities for Mr. Jim Dawson have been reconfigured and he will now have oversight of Cooper Landing, Hope, and Moose Pass along with his work in the Assessment Department.

3) What about the Seward Middle teaching position? An individual on staff had a change of contract to full time from half time to address the shared administrative scenario with Moose Pass. When a principal teacher is hired for administration that will have Seward Middle overstaffed by .5 FTE. A decision about “what next” on this position will be delayed until the hiring for the principal teacher is complete.
