[The Monday bridge meeting has taken place. No changes to the schedule will be made, no non emergency travel will be allowed during this weekends bridge closure]
Here is the current status on the bridge closure:
1) DOT will
hold a public meeting on Monday in the Council Chambers from 12-2 (see
attached)
a. Key
personnel will be in attendance including the Supervisor of the Bridge Design
Division and the project manager
b. A conference
call is available to connect needed personnel, KBP Mayor, state representatives
and others to the meeting
c. DOT will
discuss
the hwy full closure (April 24-27),
the amended schedule for the weight
restrictions (the City facilitated suggestions from the community on times with
the least impact)
the construction details of the
project, and
other topics from the community
2) I am
collecting and forwarding impact numbers to DOT in order to provide
justification for DOT to contract train connectivity between Moose Pass
and Seward during the full closure.
3) Emergency
protocol during the weekend closure is as follows: Providence to contact the Railroad for
transportation past the closure via Seward’s Police Dispatch in case of
increment weather restricting helicopter flights. Providence has been notified.
4) At our
request, DOT is developing a website with ‘real time’ updates to
the weight restriction schedule and has updated incorrect info on the Alaska
Road Traveler 511 site.
