Have you been enjoying watching the birds at your bird feeder all these years and are wondering who these beautiful birds are? Have you been casually bird watching, trying to decipher the field guides, and now feel you are ready for a little more formal instruction?

Are you ready to buy a new pair of binoculars but aren’t sure which one? Do you enjoy the Seward Sporadic Bird Reports and wish you could see those birds too? In any case, the Kenai Peninsula College Resurrection Bay Extension Site is offering a new one-credit class, “Beginning Birding”.

“Beginning Birding” will provide an introduction to birding with an emphasis on developing identification skills. Other topics will include a review of birding tools including binoculars and field guides, an introduction to birding terminology, and some discussion of basic bird biology as they relate to identification. The course is designed primarily for beginning birders but should be useful for many mid-level birders as well.

The five evening classes will meet on Wednesday evenings from 7 to 9 pm at Seward High School starting March 25 through April 22nd. Two half-day field trips around the Seward area are scheduled for April 4th and 25th from 9 am to 1 pm.

Join local birder and Seward Sporadic Bird Report Reporter, Carol Griswold for this fun and informative class!

Reserve your space before the March 13th deadline by registering with Jackie Marshall at 224-2285, or emailing her at
The cost for the one-credit course is $137.00. Class is limited to 12 people.
