What with all of this negativism and bickering on here (don’t get me wrong, I love a good argument as much as anyone – just ask my friends:) ) I thought that I’d change the mood a bit and give some kudos out….
I’ve noticed what a great job the DOT crews have been doing, not just on the highways, but also on the bike trail from 3 bridges to the harbor. Your efforts are not going un-noticed. I realize that the trails are a much lower priority than the highways, and that you are working hard to keep our highways safe and repaired – not an easy task with an up and down state budget and a minimal staff. The freeze thaw cycles every other day and snow dumpings are a lot to handle, and you are respected by everyone that follows you as you ride the guardrail in a white-out keeping us connected to the ‘real world’.
I am still a bit of a newcomer here – a Sewardite since ‘99, but it seems that there are a whole lot more bikers on the roads during the winter than there were in the past. Before the bike trail was built, it was life threatening to ride into town during the winter months. I’m seeing 5-10 regular riders these days – which is great! (of course, I’m not one of them, I’m just too wimpy)
DOT workers in Seward (AND of course Seward Public Works operators) – THANK YOU and keep up the great work!
